Removing and installing the viscous clutch
Removal Installation
1. Removecardan shaft Installin reverseorder, observingthe following
(refer to Serv. No. 39 02 19). points:
2. Remove front final drive 1. Insert supporting disc and fit snap ring with
(refer to service No. 39 88 19). special tool 9638.
3. Clamp final drive into the vise with special
tool VW 457, drain oil and remove the
long-neckpipe.

2. Alwaysreplace a-ring for long-neckpipe
and coat with Vaseline. A -Special tool VW 457 255_98
3. Uniformlytighten fastening screws for 4. Removesnap ring and take out viscous

coupling with supporting ring.
