911 Turbo (996) Alarm system I 48 96 96-23Fault code 17 Signal from airbag, short circuit to ground Diagnostic conditions • 45 s after terminal 86S or terminal 15 has been switched on Possible cause of fault ♦Short circuit to ground in wiring between the alarm system con- trol module and the airbag and DME control modules Affected terminals Plug A, terminal 12 Diagnosis/troubleshooting Work instruction Display OK If not OK 1 Check wiring for short cir- ♦Switch off ignition ∞ Ω Repair wiring har- cuit to ground ⇒ Step 2 ness ♦Pull plug A off the alarm system → End control module ♦Pull plug off the airbag control module ♦Pull plug D off the DME control module ♦Measure resistance between plug A on alarm system control module pin 12 and ground 2 Replace faulty control ♦Push plug A back onto the alarm Fault code 16 no Fault 16 still present module system control module longer present ⇒ Step 3 ⇒ Step 4 ♦Push plug back onto the airbag control module ♦Switch on the ignition and read out the fault memory again 3 Replace faulty control ♦Switch off ignition Fault code 16 no Fault 16 still present module longer present ⇒ Step 6 ♦Pull plug off the airbag control ⇒ Step 5 module ♦Push plug D back onto the DME control module ♦Read out the fault memory again 4 ♦Replace DME control module → End 5 ♦Replace airbag control module → End 6 ♦Replace alarm system control module → End 9601 Fault code 17 96-23 page 1 Printed in Germany – 4, 2001 17xxxi48
