I noticed a loss of coolant on the garage floor and the temp light went on. Replaced coolant tank and fixed the problem.

Coolant Level and obsurd vanishings!reported fixed

UPDATE: So I changed the coolant cap and that did not solve the problem. My next step is to replace the coolant tank but first I want to make sure that its bad. Whats the maximum PSI that I should add to the cooling system to check for leaks?

Coolant overflow due to hot weather?unresolved · Original poster

similar problem (See thread "Mysterious coolant leak"). In my case, coolant is dumping around the right rear axle area, which seems to be an overflow from the expansion tank. We replaced thermostat, pressure cap and bleeder valve, but that didn't fix the problem. Two possibilities: 1/- Air pocket in the coolant system expanding with the heat, pushes the coolant up thru the pressure cap and overflow. Solution: check that the coolant system is purged from any air, thru the bleeder valve (Use "vacuum method") 2/- The dreadful but

nuine Porsche anti-freeze in the gallon jug. I have had to change or refresh the coolant in my Boxster now several times: busted radiator; water pump replaced; coolant tank replaced; and I just let the techs use the Porsche fluid. After nearly 254K miles the cooling system, the oil/water cooler, the heater core, the original radiator, and the hoses, are all working just fine. And I have no fear of any gelling or other incompatibilities arising from mixing the wrong anti-freezes. The Turbo has had one coolant drain/refill (aris

Porsche coolant, why?suggestion

Because they knew sooner or later you're gonna need a new coolant tank or water pump at which point the coolant will be replaced partially anyway Once I asked a service advisor if I should replace the coolant sometimes. He said, no worries, you're gonna need a new coolant tank down the road anway. Sure enough, my tank leaked not long after and needed replacement.

Simple 3-step complete coolant drain (updated w/ refill procedure + water pump tips)suggestion · Original poster

e each? No check engine lights or rough running. 3. What color should the coolant be? One possible problem would be intermix, right? And that would show in the coolant tank. But I don't know what color it should be. Oil looked fine when I took it out. When I get a chance I will get a picture of the coolant. Thanks for any input.

Does this look like a failing expansion tank cap? My part # is 996-106-447-01 and Pelican shows 996-106-447-04-M100 - which I assume is a revised and newer part - based on the 04 at the end. I have cleaned it up to see if there is a leak, but for the $30, maybe it just makes sense to replace. Query - Would this kind of failure cause operating temperatures to be higher than normal?

'04 C4S I started working on my injectors tonight and broke this nipple on the bottom hose of the coolant reservoir. Is 99610685103 the correct replacement?

anywhere, when I did my early '98 build update I needed to change the metal pipe as well. That said, the 996 106 850 05 hose was the correct fit for my coolant expansion tank so I did not need to update that, just the metal pipe that runs under the rear of the engine.

Just bought some replacement coolant hoses for an '00 C4. 996.106.250.55 supersedes to 996.106.850.05. But the hoses have a different contour at the coolant tank connection. The new hose has an S bend and is longer. Maybe made for a newer or different coolant tank? The nipple for the AOS hose connection will be further away if using the new hose, and not sure the AOS hose will reach? Is there another hose p/n that I should be trying to use? Thanks,

uh ohhh...coolant expansion tank should be OE Porsche only, unless you want to do it again real soon. Sadly Coolant Reservoir For 996 - New/Replacement S99610614756 Coolant Reservoir For 996 for Porsche 911 $1,126.84 That's AutoAtlanta price. I don't know about Sunset Porsche or Suncoast parts prices.
