The rear and side mirrors dim way too much. W/o shutting them down I am blind behind! Anyone out there had a similar problem/fix? Thanks Irish

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

i dont know how to turn the auto dimmer off, but i love thoes things. they save me from all the big suv's out their. check the manual and see it could be as simple as pulling a fuse out
p.28 of 2006 manual, p.38 of 2007 manual: (switch B is the middle one on the rear view mirror) Please mention if this doesn't work.
In other words there is a small button on the bottom of your rear view mirror. Depress that and it deactivates the auto dimming mirrors. The shortage of owners manuals continues... Sorry to beat you to the punch, Santa Fe.
Pressing that button turns off the rear-view side mirrors' diodes as well? Or just the center mirror? I think my side mirrors have an issue because half the time they're like dark blue. - Suneet
Pressing that button on the rear-view mirror controls all 3 mirrors; both side view and the rear view in the car. If your sideview mirrors are always blue you should go have it checked out. The dimming is a reaction of a chemical that is in the mirrors, if it is always dim regardless of whether the system is on or not you may have a problem.
still dim Appreciate the imput. I wasn't clear! I can shut the dimmer down. The problem is that with the dimmer on, I am blacked out to the rear. Sorta, too tinted sunglasses. I need to take it into the dealer, and expect the "they all do that" line. Apparently, they don't? Irish
I am reviving an old thread (see I searched). While on my cross country trip last month, right after a gas stop in brilliant sunshine, my auto-dimming mirrors went into nighttime mode (very dark.) I turned off the switch and they returned to normal daytime mode, but when I turned the switch back on, they immediately darkened again. I ended up pulling over, turning the car off, then restarting. This time they returned to normal operation. I have noticed though that at night, the mirrors seem darker than they used to, in fact in the city, I can barely see out of them. Would this indicate a bad sensor? or what else in the regulation of the mirrors could be at fault? I will mention this when the car goes in for its first service, but just wondering if anyone else has had this problem.
What is wrong with you all..................? Real Men, have Real Mirrors, no messing about with this automatic nonsense and then complaining. You should be driving your Cayman so fast that you do not need rear view mirrors,
I have the same issue (too dark outside mirrors). I suspect I'll get the "they're all like that" when I take it in. There is probably no adjustment (although there could be since they dim in proportion to the voltage provided I think).
