Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

All, I’ve done an exhaustive search both on this forum and google and I can’t find an answer to my problem. I have a 2001 non turbo C2 996 cabrio with a automatic/tiptronic trans. The transmission’s torque converter unlocks VERY easily. If I’m cruising at 70mph and I give it more than 5% throttle, it unlocks. Once it unlocks, I cannot get the torque converter to re-lock unless I completely let of the gas pedal. Needless to say, my gas mileage is suffering and it takes some effort to try and keep the torque converter locked while at speed. I do NOT have any DTC codes and there is no check engine light. Therefore, I assume this issue if likely mechanical and not electrical. My thoughts on the problem: Soft failure of the throttle position senor (integrated with the electronic throttle body) Bad TCC solenoid in the valve body Bad valve body (valves leaking by/not properly seating or diverting fluid) Bad Torque Converter Any comments of help would be appreciated.

If you have not already, you might want to post this question on the ******** 996 Forum . Since P-9 is focused more on Cayman and Boxster, you might find more 996 owners at that forum.
