Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Researching the 996 engine and it seems to be a polarizing discussion. There's a supercharged 996 for sale near me and it's tempting to get. I currently have a 2003 s2000 and I've always had a love for the 911, which is why I'm tempted to climb behind a Porsche and sell my first car I've ever owned. Anyone that has supercharged their 996, how has it been for you?

POST 2Original post

NA 996s are inherently fragile motors with a bunch of baked-in fatal flaws, many of which make them a pretty terrible candidate for forced induction. The ownership experience of even a well-sorted stock 996 is gonna be a world away from an S2000 as far as maintenance goes, though @freddworks has firsthand experience with that exact jump and is prolly the only guy to ask. Id personally pass on that car.

Totally disagree! Yes they have their issues but such a small percentage are affected to the point it's comical. A supercharged M96 would certainly be a blast to drive. If you are looking at it, see what service history it has, get under it and look for your self. Remember it's 20+ year old car but still VERY capable. Report back and let us know what you find!

Those 2-3000 miles it runs for will def be a blast, no denying that!

POST 6Original post

Other than a very high compression ratio I don't think it's a bad choice. A modest 4PSI of boost should put the engine hp up to a real, measurable 360-380 hp.

If all 2-3000 miles are at redline you bet....but if it's not going to the track and you're just enjoying it as a daily driver or weekend carver, you can easily get 50K+ miles worth of enjoyment.

POST 8Original post

@SlakkerRacingDev Have you guys or Hartech supercharged one yet?

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

this is what I like about this discussion. The threads I've found on here about people supercharging their 996 have been a long time ago with varying opinions, but none of said how bad or how well their experience was. The youtube videos are clearly 'this is incredible' type of hype. The car in question puts down 430hp roughly - making it 6psi based off the website. The SC is a VF and the car has less than 30k miles or less than 50k km. I've requested the vehicles service history, and if the IMS bearing an RMS has been completed. No response from the dealership yet.

Id also ask for a bore scope from the sump up and see if theres a record of the water pump/aos/chain guides ever being replaced.

will do. thanks

POST 12Original post

If that is actually 430 whp on a dyno it's probably like 8-10 psi of boost. I don't think I would like that at 11.something to 1 comp ratio. An intercooler would be mandatory for me.
