POST 1Original post

Hi, I am new to this forum and have been reading and researching all things Porsche for many months now. I love the Cayman and 911 because of the power/weight ratio, beauty, reliability, and agility. I am going to buy a Porsche as soon as a good one hits the dealer lots. I don't have the patience to order and wait. I want to buy and drive away. I prefer a Cayman S , but it seems like a 911 Turbo S might be fun. Here are the dealer ordered options: This 911 Turbo S Coupe comes equipped with24891 Seat Stitching in Deviated Thread (Front and Rear)24901 Dashboard Stitching in Deviated Thread24902 Upper Door Panel Stitching in Deviated Thread24905 Rear Side Panel Stitching in Deviated Thread24906 Center Console Lid Stitching in Deviated Thread26741 Center Door Panel Stitching in Deviated Thread26751 Armrest Stitching in Deviated Thread26761 Door Handle Stitching in Deviated Thread342 Seat heating (front)456 Adaptive cruise control incl. Having never owned a Porsche before, I don't know. Are these silly options designed to optimize dealer profit? There is also a pre-owned 911 GT3 in stock, 2015, with about 4,000 miles. I am not really a used car type of guy, I prefer a new one so I can be sure of its history. I am a new member of these forums and want to fellowship and talk all things 981, 911, and 781. Thank you.

Welcome. I don't think there is answer to your question because it all about preference. That's a heavily optioned car. What I can say is Porsche cars are best purchased with lots of options because it seems their marketing is 'if you didn't get an option, you get worse quality' rather than 'we offer great standard equipment, but feel free to personalize with options.' Some of the 'standard' features are flat out poor quality almost assume you'd get an option. So I'd think of it like 'where do I want to ensure I get the full Porsche experience' and make sure all those options are checked. For example, if you like to listen to music, definitely get upgraded speakers/head unit. Like awesome exhaust sounds? Sport exhaust required. Want great handling and nice looking wheel gap? Get the upgraded sport suspension. Want nice looking wheels? Get 19/20 inch wheels. Want a quality interior? Get full leather. Etc...this is the Porsche way. A Turbo S is a really high end car. It will have a lot of standard equipment, but a Cayman will be very sparse.

Hi, if you notice, most of those options consist of "deviated stitching," I have to google that, and "leather covered everything," including leather covered air vents. I do like the front axle lift, so I don't scratch the front bumper. If I were to order myself, if I had the patience to wait 6 or 7 months, I would order a stripper. I'd feel good driving the stark car without the frills and ruffles. Can't find a car like that on a dealer lot, though.

Weird comment. Chalk and cheese....from handling to price points I could understand if you said boxster versus Cayman or 911GT3 versus 911TTS

POST 5Original post

Well, both the Cayman and 911 are great cars, beautiful, I love them both. My preference would be the mid-engine Cayman, however. Judging from some of the sigs on these forums, many Porsche owners have owned both the 981 and the 911, so not such a "weird comment."

POST 6Original post

Yes. My SA told me they like to keep a couple highly optioned cars on the lot for the occasional lottery winner or professional athlete walking in the door. I think you stumbled upon one of those. Or it could be a custom order that got canceled. You shouldn't rush your decision, and I think you should consider ordering a car. I agree that a few key options are mandatory and really should be standard (like an upgraded stereo). But listen, you can easily pay a small fortune for stuff you don't care about if you buy from a dealer's inventory. It's your money, so good luck with the shopping.

POST 7Original post

Right. The dealership 1) doesn't order them that way, and if they do, 2) it sold very quickly.

POST 8Original post

Another "interesting" comment is questioning the price of options on a car which stickers for around $200K
