Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Can someone please tell me if steering wheel gearchange is quite rare on the 996 tiptronic and what was the cost of this when new regards paul.

POST 2Original post

Tiptronic S (switches on the steering wheel) was standard on all 996 tiptronics. It was only an option on 993s.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thankyou for the reply i have seen some cars without this option is there two versions a normal one and a s model?

POST 4Original post

I've never seen a 996 without the switches on the 996 and the only tip 993 I've seen also had swtiches on the steering wheel (plus the useful ability to move the change up/down via the gearnob, which I wish the 996 also had!). What year and country model are you looking at?

POST 5Original post

Me too! Annoying when you are in first (in manual) pulling away quickly out of a side turn and want to change up while the steering wheel is spinning. I flick the lever into D and back to M and it changes up. My old 993 TipS was better, as you say. All 993s were not TipS. A friend of mine has a non-S without steering sweel switches. I think it was an option on the early cars, and standard from 1995.

POST 6Original post

That's a new trick, I'm off out to give it a try. I thought the clever gearbox wouldn't allow gear changes in corners except in manual. TB
