I am a tenaciousshopper and will not pay list for this baby. How has pricing been so far? Has anyone seen any discounts?

Some have said that they did get theirs below MSRP, but I am not one of those. With 13 names on the list for December and more for January I was lucky to even get one. After January they will be asking 2k to 3k above MSRP. Maybe Hawaii is different than the rest. Good Luck, Russ
Yes I have heard of (approx $3K) but not seen any firm price discounts. And yes...when these babies come in and they are on dealers lots...they will be over MSRP...but I do believe that a dealer with a good allocation will negotiate on an ordered unit. I am going to try for $5000.00 off of window and strike now while there are none on the ground.
I paid MSRP and looking forward to enjoying my new ride.
Unlikely. This all follows the business ideology, Low supply + High demand = Price increases. If u want to pay under MSRP, u gotta wait!
Although it is a good question. I believe the dealer holds over 9k profit at MSRP. I guess if your going to let 3k get in the way you really don't want one.
I do not see supply being limited based on the Finnish production capacity and the likelihood that a "base" model will be introduced in a relatively short period of time after the January US launch . If nobody is asking over MSRP now, I doubt that is going to happen down the road.
ive seen a lot of people asking over list in the uk. check this out: www.pistonheads.com/sales/list.asp?p=1&s=487 also i have never seen porsche offer discounts in london. Edited by - confused on 11/02/2005 10:20:58 PM
I think the Ferrett needs to get real and cough up the $. NoUS dealer is going to sell first a allocation Caymanbelow MSRP. Being in sales...I hate grinders
May just depend on where you are. All I know is that my dealer had 6 cars for each build month of Nov, Dec, and Jan.........all were taken quickly. After these three months his allocations for the Caymans actually go down a bit. You might be able to get $500 off, but $5k?........I say no way.......but try away.
The Ferrett, You can get a good deal on a Boxster, 7% or so discount is easy, but would be lucky to get anything off a Cayman during the first 6 months after release. These are not Chevys or Toyotas.
I have the exact dealer cost from Edmunds it is $51,392, they have a lot of fat in there!! I can see why my salesman didn't want to lose me to Beverly Hills Porsche who has a 38 unit allocation. Aloha Russ
RUSSK: Yep there is a lot of FAT in there. 12.5% margin on basepriceand about 15% on the options. DAVEC: I agree. I dont see supply being limited in the long run.Everything built in theFINNISH plant has always been readily available. Although, until the next generation 911 is produced with a mid engine...THE CAYMAN is the TITS Porsche. Even before tweaking...the stock Cayman will run circles around most of the current model 911's you will see on the local weekend track. (except for the GT2 and the Carrera GT...if you can manage to drive either one of them) Although, I believe the possibiltiy exists for this car to become theeveryman's Porsche; I don't think it will happen anytime soon. But until they make a mid-engine 911 (probably 2010), the Cayman will be the car to have. John Ferguson: 7% on a Boxster is weak. There are distressed 2005 Boxster S models everywhere that many dealers will drop their pants on before even asking. Try 10K off in the LA market. Hell even the Carrera GT is having some movement problems. KEVOZZI : I am just trying to keep as much of my money in my bank account as possible. I am in sales. In fact that is all I have ever done. I love grinders. They excite me. No pansy salary job for me. If you want to laydown and buy one for sticker go right ahead. More power to you. GOD BLESS YOU. Patch2: I want one...I am just a cheap bastard. Now is the time to strike people...when they first arrive the dealers will hammer over sticker as they will have a tangible asset to show and sell. Right now...no one can be 100% certain the direction the Cayman will take. Let me know who is dealing....
ARE YOU INSANE....even atruck drivercan get a $500.00 discount!
Ferret, Take it easy it's only money. I'm sure a sales stud like you has plenty. Porsche is the most profitable car maker in the world..... Have you ever bought a boat before? They probably had their way with you and you liked it. If you want to play with the big boys you have to pay the dough. So let's see what the dealers response is going to be when you ask for 5k off MSRP! Hopefully you leave your wife at home. The way I see it the dealers are entitled to make a buck now and then. I'm sure your customers want you to make the money so you can continue to support them. I laid down and paid window and I'm hoping the dealer appreciates me for it.
Ferret, Step up to the plate and go for it!!!
Patch2: The dealer's response will probably be your usual...FORGET ABOUT IT.But after time thesalespersonwill call back in a day or two with some enticments to get me back in the front door...but by that time I will have snagged a more aggressive salesperson from a more aggressive dealership that I can use as a counter offer. I will eventually go right around the salesperson and directly tothe sales manager (who's only job is to give things away)...that is after I have worn the dealer out in negotiations. By the way, I do have a boat. A used one with low hours. A used boat is the only way to go as it is the only thing that sits more than a sports car. Your right about one thing...I don't want one bad enough to pay list. That's insulting. A discount is so easy to get...all you have to do is ask for it. But it does not seem that anyone on this site has the balls to ask anyone for it. I have asked and been rewarded....I am now working on even more discount. Let's face the facts...why pay list fora depreciating asset. Although, this is a Porsche and could have been considered a super car four years ago...it is still a car that will be manufactured by a third party contractor for Porsche on a mass production schedule. The FIN plant can pump out cars like a KIA plant in Korea if need be. So, don't let thePorsche propaganda fools on this sitefool you. This will bea TREMENDOUS car but still a depreciateing asset...and most definetly not a collectible. So, therefor a discount is a MUST. PS: I wont be bringing my wife. Cheers!
Ferret, Not one person has admitted to a discount! What makes you think you will be able to land one? The salespeople are not horney enough yet business is to good right now. Don't forget Mercedes is built in Germany and look at their quality issue's. The Fin plant is probably higher quality than the German plant. Only 10k per year will be built will you get one? Maybe you can wait till 2010 when the new 911 is introduced and ask for a discount. Goog luck my boy. How's the boat? Do you have an RV?
You'll be able to get a discount on the car once they are actually sitting on lots, but in the beginning there is NO WAY. It's simple, why the hell would they sell you an early allocation car for $5K off when the next guy will pay full boat. It is a supply and demand issue in the beginning and it's as simple as that. Once there is a bigger supply than the deman then you can get your deal.
I'd be forgetting about discounts for a while sunshine especially to the tune of $5,000 USD - ain't going to happen on a brand new model for some time - there's only 1 direction this car is going. Go into your local Porsche Dealer and spec one up and ask them to throw in the luxury floor mats for free (£128 GBP) and see what happens. Dean
I paid MSRP and was happy to get a November build. I am not interested in nickle and dime a discount. My car stickered at over $73,000. Frankly, I am not going to haggle over 1 or 2 thousand dollars.
Then let me be the first. I got a 'courtesy discount' from a dealer I have bought 9 cars from. Every other dealer in the New York tri-state area wanted a deposit to order a car at MSRP. My dealer didn't want a deposit nor did we sign a contract; he just ordered his January build to my specifications. He knows he will be able to sell the car quickly to someone else if I don't take it. Unless the Cayman S is a total flop or you find a dealer with excess inventory in an economically depressed area, I wouldn't expect to get a discount, leave alone a large one.
I got absolutely nothing off MSRP. My dealer did make a vague promise that 'maybe we can help out on your aftermarket items.' This means he may drop his handling fee when getting my radar detector and 'bra' installed. In my experience over a large number of auto manufacturers, Porsche is the stingiest when it comes to dealing.
I did get a deal off MSRP from my dealer who I have purchased from before and they did not require a deposit either, but I'm not allowed to say how much off and they implied my deal is a one-off, that others are paying MSRP from them.
Ferrett, I have to agree with you and I wish I would have read your post before I gave them my deposit. I am not good at getting deals, but I did ask and my salesman if he could cut the pricefor me, he gave methe 'absolutely no discounts' routine and I bought it thinking how lucky I was to get in ahead of the other 13 other people wanting that December build. Maybe the only reason I got it was because I was the only one that was willing to pay MSRP! I wish I would have found this site before Iput my money down,I would have called his bluff about discounts. I was ordering blind with very little information. I now know a lot more than the salesperson. I sure do appreciate everyone's honesty and point of view. Aloha Russ
good point Russ, The Ferret is not completely full of s@#$ . Don't let him get you down though, it's all in your mind (a good deal) the ferret will be dreaming and you will be driving. His wife will have him sweeping out the garage for a 1980's nissan pick-up and looking at road and track.
