In looking for the phone power hookup, I found this dial on the driver’s side of the lower console. I have never noticed it until now. The dial is a 2 stage style with a separate upper and lower dial. At first I thought it was for an upgraded for a subwoofer but the dial had no effect on the bass. In looking at it, it’s a radar detector. Anyone ever see one like this? Also, I’m afraid to just yank it out not knowing what it could affect. Thanks in advance!

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Is that an old K40 control ****?

Yes, it was bugging me so I went back and flipped it over. Doh!
I think I have a manual for that radar....same as mine was. Want it?. Bill

Maybe. Im still on the fence about keeping it in or yanking it out. Not happy about the phone power wires being cut so close as I was wanting to install one of @Coopduc oil temp gauges. I also submitted another thread trying to identify this thing I found in my frunk. I am assuming it is the front radar sensor? Thanks!

Yes, thats a old K40 remote set up. The flex sensor in your trunk was cutting edge at the time. K40 was almost right up there with Valentine1 in performance. 1 notch above the Escorts. Nice old K40 unit. K40 was the first laser detector/jammer manufacturer in the world to offer a speeding ticket guarantee. I had one in my 2002Tii. Worked good. I did prefer my Val1 over all the detectors I've had. Thing is, once instant on radar was perfected and the operators knew how to use it effectively, all detectors fell to it. Only hope was the LEO operator was not that good at his job and shot the beam down the road so other drivers behind could get a warning signal if their detector was sensitive enough. The operators that knew exactly what they were doing shot the beam at an angle to the road so others couldn't get a warning in time. LEO also figured out to not be near a big highway overhead sign that reflects the beam back to warn others of the trap... Anyhow, back in the day, in the NE USA, the LEO seemed to figure out all the above fast and combined with the new LIDAR and planes doing triangulation, the days for high speed driving diminished drastically for me and my buddies, detectors or no detectors didn't seem to matter much anymore. The old days of daily triple digit blasting were over if you wanted your license... Here in Florida a new law just went into effect that makes it a felony and instant arrest to get caught doing over 100mph... Maybe in west Texas on those desolate, open, straight, boring hyways, one can still blast at top speed. but the fun of it to me in the Porsche is the twistier high speed roads that seem to be more in patrolled areas... Anyhow I'd keep it as long as its already in there, Never know, plenty of small city LEO departments might still have the old K&X band units the K40 shines at detecting..?
OP - If you decide to pull out the old detector wires, you can possibly butt connect (looks dicey) or (best) re-pin the phone power wires to install the temp gauge.
