Hi everybody, So I have been scratching my head over he past few hours trying to figure out whether the 996 I got is in fact a manual. The car physically has a manual of course however a few things that got me worrying; it has the option code "XJB or XJ8" I cant quite make it out of the picture the seller provided (I have put down a deposit). Maybe you experts can take a look at the attached and let me know. Second, it has the engine code M9603 = 3.6 this is good, its a late 2001 from France hence its a 996.2. HOWEVER the gearbox / getriebe code 09601 is completely unknown, I have tried several google searches and cant make heads or tails from it. I can still pull the deposit, so would be great if you could help me confirm its in fact a manual. Many thanks in advance, Dick :?:

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Also I see an "X57" code which could mean X97? As the car has the aluminum shift knob?
Firstly that's not the VIN Number. :hand: That gearbox code is actually G96 01 which you'll pleased to hear is the transmission type code for a 6 speed manual 2002-2005 Carrera.
Sorry, the first sticker was more than 2 mb so I cropped the vin is WP0ZZZ99Z2SXXXXXX attached as well (top crop)
XJB indicates that the rear centre console should be painted silver.
I was jesting. The VIN number doesn't tell you whether the car is a manual or a Tip'. The info above tells you want you want to hear.
Man you are a lifesaver! , will edit out the VIN. Yeah this will be the second 996. I want to do a poor mans CSR conversion with a ducktail . I was also happy to see this is a facelift model, with the m96 03. I have to say I wish these things were easier to find.
One last thing, while the engine code has the 03 indicating the 3.6. My current 996.1 has a "W" for model year, whereas this one has a "2" this indicates a 996.2 for 100% right? Thanks! p.s. I hate purchasing cars too much stress
W denotes Model Year 1998, the 2 denotes Model Year 2002 (autumn 2001 to summer 2002) as confirmed by the fact that it's a 3.6, Gen2 car.
Excellent! I was a bit surprised as the car is a 2001
