Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I have a 2010 Cayman 2.9L with a worn motor mount. I ordered a Brand New Porsche OEM part, it was shipped in an overly sized plastic clear bag that was taped up with the typical Porsche labels on it. The bracket appears to be new but the rubber has a thin layer of brown crust that comes off easily with a finger nail. It was mostly covered when I pulled it from the bag but I rubbed half of it off. My concern is this crust is oxidation from the rubber, and that it's a part that maybe past its prime. Perhaps it's a finishing wax to help keep the rubber from drying out while it sits on a shelf. The rubber underneath looks healthy, it doesn't appear to have been mounted Has anybody experienced this on new rubber bushings or could provide insight on the subject? .

POST 2Original post

I'm no expert but that looks more like mold release from the rubber molding?

POST 3Original post

You should’ve seen what happened to the initial design of this mount that was in my 986. It looked far worse than yours when I replaced it.

POST 4Original post

It's fine. Seriously think about an insert. I found any increase in NVH to be perfectly acceptable in my Cayman 2.9.

POST 5Original post

Fingers crossed on the added NVH as I am about to do the same. Factory mount and yellow poly insert. And yes, that is just mold release in the mount.

POST 6Original post

Those two photos are of the new mount. I didn't pull the old one out yet.
