POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

went today to look at a 06 plate cayman s at sheffield opc and they valued my immaculate 2000 w reg 996 as a trade in at £11k, now that has got to be wrong surely!!!! i know they have lost quite a bit of value over the last 12 months but that is a frickin joke!!!!!!!! so don't think opc will be getting my money in the near future, rather deal with a company what isn't going to rob their customers, see below for a pic of the salesman Anyway rant over, just thought i get it off my chest.

POST 2Original post

Doesn't surprise me I'm afraid... OPC won't retail it so they will only offer what they are 'certain' they can get back for it from the Trade / Auction: Trade isn't buying anything at the moment as they can't sell what they've already got, so it's only worth buying anything if it is stupid cheap! I'm afraid that's just the way things are at the moment! However, the same story goes for newer cars - so chances are you will save more on the car you're buying than you'll lose on the one your selling (relative to normal market conditions of course). Doesn't quite work against a new car though... I'm not the greatest advocate of everything that OPCs do, but you can't blame them for this one - I think Downing Street is where the highwaymen hang out at the moment...

POST 3Original post

11k :floor: I hope you told them what you thought of them !

POST 4Original post

Taking the trade in into account, how much extra is the 06 Cayman... and what was the price gap 12 months ago? Regardless of the trade in valuation (enough to slit your wrists I know) if the cost of change is less, then your quids in.

POST 8Original post

If cars that are 3 years younger are being traded for early 20s, then that sounds about right I'm sorry to say. As someone mentioned earlier, the OPC will only sell this onto the trade or will auction that car and this is the going rate at the moment. Traditionally a very slow time of year, made even worse in the current market with rumored lack of credit (I haven't seen much evidence of this though, although it's possible that the traders have?). If you bought the car from the same OPC, they might offer a bit of goodwill, but won't make a loss obviously. You should see this in the form of discount on the purchased car, rather than an improved trade in. As you're trading up, you should be getting a good price on the Cayman, if not, shop around, there's plenty out there! BTW - not sure what your budget is, but there's some cracking 997s around for mid-30s at the moment, so you might want to consider on of these instead.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Nice to see the difference in comments, but i'm afraid i'm with sundeep & daniel on this one. The cayman was £27k, my 996 was £25k from an indy 18 months ago so thats a £14k loss (i don't think so) i'm guessing the cayman wasn't £41k 18 months ago but if it was i think my love affair with porsche is over! us mere mortals just can't afford to lose that kind of money. I had between £25k & £30k to spend depending on what i get for my car, but i think that now i will spend about £5k on a car that way i won't lose silly amounts of money, heres to a clio renaultsport!!!!!

POST 10Original post

Similar thing happened to me when I traded in HD1. Was offered £37K in Jan this year (and that was jst the dealer taking it off my hands, not PX)....... When it came to trade in last week I only got £25K (and that was after some negotiation too). Whilst this seemed like a massive drop, the car I was buying had taken a hit in excess of £40K in tha time period so I was quids in and happy with the deal.................

POST 11Original post

I don't think the price drop you're talking about in 18 months isn't unreasonable unfortunately. At the end of the day, it's only worth what someone will pay you for it. Looking at PH, dealers are selling similar cars to yours (in terms of age) for about £15k, so the OPC is probably taking a gamble of £1k and expecting yours to go for £12k at auction (leaving £3k dealer margin!). So you might be able to get about £14k privately? I know what you're saying and it's terribly depressing. I bought my car almost exactly 12 months ago and I would say it's worth about £22k as a trade (potentially less now after seeing what Scott got for HD1). After putting a warranty on it and servicing, tyres, brakes etc, I've lost well over £10k (in 12 months!), probably closer to £14k. My car was also bought privately, slightly less than trade. I'm not sure what Cayman's go for, but £27k seems like quite a lot, so I'm sure you can get lower than this if you shop around. If you're buying cash for your car it's even more soul destroying, so I am starting to see the attraction of paying monthly installments. You pay the depreciation as you go, but is only ok if you've got the disposable incoming (and are employed!). 2 children in private education plus a big mortgage makes that difficult for me!!

POST 12Original post

I was going to get a new S Class Merc for work instead of the Porsche :hand: :hand: in April and would of paid around £55-£60k for the one. Instead I got the Porsche which I love and have already written into my will and now the S class Mercs are around £30k for the spec I wanted don't play twister with the dealers ! naked !

POST 13Original post

I will be frank, 11k for a 2000 model on trade in sounds about right. The OPC will most likely trade it out for what they paid (there abouts) or sell it as a used car, they will need to service it, prep it, warranty it... and make their profit. I have seen 98,99,00 996's go for 10-16k private.

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

there seems to be quite few people who think a mint 2000 plate 996 can be got for 11k, well if anyone finds them please send me the details. lets get real £11k might just about get you a 98 plate 996 with starship miles, no sh, awful colour exterior and interior and in a total mess. I have searched autotrader n pistonheads and i can't find these cheap ones!

POST 15Original post

Sign of the Times. Lots of cars not selling unless very cheap, as already pointed out. I was going to buy a 997, but no offers for my car, and further work uncertainty looks like it might not happen now. Anyone want to buy a 997 Buyers Guide, only read once.......?
