Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I plan to move from my 996 into a 964. I have some mods I have been meaning to do to the 996 for ages but apparently wedding planning takes priority. Anyway, I would love to hear people's thoughts on whether I should do the mods before selling, or not bother and leave the car as it is and let the buyer decide. I already own the parts, its just labour/fitting that I would be paying for. Mods are: 1) Get my mufflers modified to sports exhaust setup, by welding a bypass pipe (just like the Oettle ones on ebay) 2) Fit short shifter 3) Get my sportdesign wheels refurb'd with black satin centres and silver rims (like Dan's in the current website header picture) 4) spot repair to 2 tiny chips on rear bumper The car is already modified with sports suspension & K&N induction kit & BMC air filter, so it isnt standard to start with - not sure if that is a killer for a part exchange with an indy? I just wanted people's opinions on: 1) Do the mods now, will be easier to sell to a private buyer or as part-exchange. Might or might not recoup the labour costs in the sale. Plus I get to enjoy the mods between now and when the car sells. 2) Dont do the mods, just give the parts to the buyer and let them choose, cos I wouldnt recoup the labour costs in the sale but mainly cos they might not want sports exhaust or short shift. 3) Do the mods except the wheels, as that really is quite a personal choice As always, thoughts are greatly appreciated. Josh

POST 2Original post

996 to 964 = ! In reverse order, get no.4 done No.3 will probably help sell the car as well, may be a personal choice but helps make your 911 stand out No.2. you can always take off the short shift before selling, I would say optional ? No.1 depends on the cost and how long before you intend to sell, it can't be reversed and a cost you are unlikely to ever get back

POST 3Original post

I would say definitely 3 and 4 (Sport Design wheels always look crap after a couple of years), but I wouldn't do either 1 or 2 personally: 1, because a DIY job would put me off, and 2 because you won't get a peeny back for it. HTH

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the quick replies - keep the opinions coming! Wattie - just to clarify: the exhaust would be done my local indy and would be just the same as an Oettle one. So yes, its not official PSE (which I think is what you mean by DIY), but I personally wont be doing it, so its not my DIY, if you see what I mean. The plan is 996 to 964 turbo...

POST 5Original post

if you are selling soon, leave the exhaust as standard as again it may be easier to sell on as OEM short-shift, one thing to consider is that user indifferent feedback on most 996 kits mean users normally switch back as it can be very short quite a few 996 GT3 owners have ended up fitting 997 kits... 964 Turbo you say.... now if it's the Bad Boys 3.6 or Condor Man 3.3 ?

POST 6Original post

IMO majority of buyers are looking for standard cars so any modifications will limit your market and I doubt you will recover any of the costs of any modifications 1) exhaust: leave as standard and either offer as extra to buyer or sell on ebay 2) shift: ditto 3) wheels: only do if they have been kerbed and again I would stick to standard colour

POST 7Original post

I would expect that you would get more return by selling as is and putting all of the other stuff on eBay...

POST 8Original post

If you get those bits done you'll not want to sell it.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks - tbh I would just give them to the buyer, consider it a little gift. Makes him happy and I dont need the hassle of ebay. Now thats just tempting fate...
