Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Afternoon all. I have a 00 996 C2 which has been fantastic for the last 12 mnths or so, however on coming home Xmas eve(!) there was no reverse gear! A friend at a local garage has had it on the ramp and the cable has failed. I can order a replacement from Porsche, but not until 050109. Anyone come across this before? I am a bit concerned as to the possible cause. Also, any ideas where I may get one sooner.... Cheers

POST 2Original post

Welcome to 911uk.. I am sorry, but I have not come across this before.. I think one of the tech'ie people will be along soon.

POST 3Original post

Has the cable actually broken (unusual) or has the clip broken which secures it to the gearbox (common)? If it is a broken clip, you can secure it to the bracket with a cable tie, which is a fairly permanent fix.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Aaah! Someone seems to have already tried the fix you mention, which has now given up again. The guys have tried to fix it again but say it's no good. The cable kit from Porsche is around £190, which for that money I assume(?) will have all the proper connectors as well. At least if it's a common problem as you say then not too much to worry about? :?
