Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi All, As a C4S owner I have been following the prices debates over the last few Months. This is the same C4S/X51/German/Partial History car that was up for £40k plus with Friends Green. At the same time it was auctioned at Ascot this weekend, and failed to meet a reserve of £24-£26k. So as most thought at the time, the Friends Green price was somewhat ambitious! https://www.historics.co.uk/buying/auctions/2019-03-02/cars/ref-92-2004-porsche-996-c4s/

POST 2Original post

Yes 40k is bonkers money for any c4s. I think this car is likely worth the auction estimate, but what does the buyers premium vat etc add to the bill, and this is probably why it didn't sell. Great colour, decent mileage, manual. Someone will snap this up surely if the price is right. Rick

POST 3Original post

From that link it appears that the auction was over 2 years ago. :?

POST 4Original post

It most certainly was 2 years ago, I recall seeing the advert text and pictures.

POST 5Original post

As I suggested, that car was auctioned 2 years ago. It wasn't at last weeks Ascot auction. https://www.historics.co.uk/buying/auctions/2021-05-15/cars/?Make=Porsche&q= It's still for sale at FGP. I'm not saying it's worth £40k but the market has moved somewhat in the last 2 years and FGP are a dealer not an auction house.

POST 6Original post

I know that FGP have been through this car thoroughly and have done a considerable amount of work on it before offering it for sale. Is it worth £40K I don't know. But the same could have been said some years ago for 964's and 993's maybe. Mark

POST 7Original post

The difference here is that 993s and 964s are worth a lot more wherever you buy them from, not just from one place. In my experience companies selling cars do the minimum needed, not what any sensible owner would do to get a car in good shape. MC

POST 8Original post

For 40k I'd be expecting a Hartech 3.9, Ohlins or KW coilovers, upgraded brakes, a full suspension rebuild and a PCCM+.

POST 10Original post

and only 20k miles from new. Mileage is up at 75k. That's a £30k car end of, although everytime I see a listing with "IMS done" in the heading, I don't usually bother even looking at the car.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Apologies all. When I looked at the Auction results this morning this car came up, and it is not there now. It must have been an IT glitch, or I somehow managed to fox their database!

POST 12Original post

The FGP yellow C4S was £26995 couple of months ago in the for sale section on this very forum. Not sure how it jumped to 42k, still it's had a new ims :floor:

POST 13Original post

Always seems to start with someone, big price increase, hold it for months, I don't know what the tactic is, maybe they're hoping someone will think they're getting a bargain when they take an offer on it? Or just trying to lift the market in general? Before you know it, a few more are up for bigger money.

POST 14Original post

You could probably corner the market on good ones quite easily. Despite constantly being reminded that they made loads of 996s there aren't usually that many for sale in most folks "weekend" spec (manual coupe). So wouldn't take millions to buy them all up and start controlling prices. The big question is. Is there/will there ever be enough demand? I think no matter what happens many folk will still want round headlights over anything the 996 has to offer.

POST 15Original post

Blimey! I might sell mine in that case!
