I would like some insight from members about switching from a 911 to an Audi R8. I have owned a 2006 and 2013 911cab, 2010 Base Boxster, 2016 Cayman GTS, and presently drive a 2016 Macan Turbo. I drove a 2012 R8 V-10 last week and really liked it. I would only want a 2014 or newer because of the dual clutch they started using. I do enjoy the Porsche line but am contemplating making the switch to a semi-exotic sports car. I'm not sure if I would get the V8 or V10. If any member has owned one or has knowledge about the R8 I would love to hear any input. Thanks

I don't have any ownership experience with an R8 but I have driven one on the track. It's a pretty awesome car with considerably more interior room than say the 458. It was overheating after about 7 laps on the track so if you intention was to track it, I'd say there seemed to be some cooling challenges that the Porsche's and Ferrari I also drove that same day didn't experience. I'd have to imagine the V10 will ultimately become the more desirably car just due to the exotic nature of the power plant. It struck me as a very livable super car in the same way the NSX was in the 90s. Special enough you might not want to take it everywhere, but engineered well enough you certainly could (in that sense very Porsche like). Life's short. It's one of the great cars of the last decade. I can't imagine anyone would feel regret seeing that automotive sculpture in their garage.
I'm not in favor of the R8+ V10 vs my 991 turbo for i didn't find superior to my Porsche in any aspect. However, I have a friend of mine who switched from 997.2 Carrera S to R8 V10 and he's very happy with it. But he's in the market for a 911. He simply says there's no substitute for 911. Another friend has a 997.1 turbo and an R8 GT V10, and he loves his R8 very much more. Other friends they prefer the R8+ over the Huracan. In the end it's very subjective... it depends wha t you cop are it to and what you want the toy for.
Horses for courses, but bought secondhand, and although you want an automatic, I do believe a manual V10 Spyder will be a good investment. Here's an advertisement comparing the new R8 to some slightly older American cars. The Audi is lovely, but I can't help thinking the others look a bit more fun. https://youtu.be/vY9YyncSe4Y
