Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Probably a silly question, but is there a cheaper alternative to obtaining a duplicate key than a Porsche main dealer? I see loads of keys on Ebay, but the actual mechanics of how it all works is rather beyond me. Any suggestions?

POST 2Original post

If you just want a spare key for emergencies, you can get a non-remote ('service' or 'valet') key. They are about £60, plus programming. Buying keys on eBay is a bit dodgy, as if they don't have the bar code label (which contains the security codes) then they are useless. Even if they have the codes, bear in mind you need to take it to a dealer for programming.

POST 3Original post

I got a key from Paragon Porsche in Fives Ashes. Very efficient service and for £170, considerably cheaper than from a Porsche Main Dealer. They programmed it and got fresh blank key cut. I wouldn't risk ebay either... Steve
