Hi guys, I am an old haunt of these boards that has finally found a Porsche that fits me. I love Cayman's and followed them for years, but the sad fact is after desperately trying to fit in one <including waiting for the last refresh> I finally had to admit that I just don't fit. I am 6'3" 270lb with really broad shoulders, but unlike most guys my height I am ALL upper body length wise. I have the legs of a 5'10" guy and the upper body of a 7 footer lol. Anyway, the headroom in the Croc and boxster is not enough. For years I never thought to sit in a 911 thinking that it would be the same as the other Porsches....until the other day. On a whim I stopped by a Porsche dealer on my way back from looking at a 2010 M3 <which was not even close to fitting, headroom again>. I sat in a Carrera, dropped the seat to the floor and was stunned...the FIRST SPORTS CAR THAT HAD ENOUGH HEADROOM!!! I had owned a BMW 135i Vert for a few years which fit decent, but truth be told it was too small as well. So that's my history and I hope to have a 911 in my future. A few questions if I might: I have a price range of about $65k-75k. I know that is low for a 911 But it is what it is. Sooo, 1.) My only real wish for a 911 is that it was a cabriolet <I know I know girls car right? I just love the open air, always have been a ragtop man>. I don't need the 4 or the S version. So for my price range with your guy's experience, about what year with approx what amount of miles do you think I should be looking at? I would be open to a coup if it was an amazing deal but otherwise Caby. 2.) Are 911's getting ready to go through a major overhaul soon? If so that might be a good thing as the 997 might drop some in price? Thoughts? 3.) Any general tips about getting a late model 911 from dealer help to buying private would be appreciated. Thanks and sorry if any of the questions are considered dumb or redundant!

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I would strongly urge that you look for 2009 Carrera (non S) Cabs. The new engine alone is worth the price as well as the remaining warranty/features/details. I checked on Autotrader and found several in the low '70s and you can probably negotiate for less. The older the car the more miles it will have and less if any warranty. The engine introduced for 2009 will be the design used in the next generation of 911s. Obviously if you can wait until the 991 debuts in September the prices on 997s will likely drop a few notches. There is a big difference in power between the standard Carrera and Carrera S (345 vs 385), and if you are willing to wait the 09 C2S Cabs will likely be in the low 70s before long. Good luck!
Wow and that's why I posted. I had no idea the next gen was literally 6 months away LOL. Jesh, that actually is perfect. I can wait 6 months and then jump on an 09 right up my alley and I *might* even be able to squeeze in the S model as you mention. :thanks:
