Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, Any idea why some 996 have their rear badge above the rear crease on the boot, whereas others have them below the crease? Cheers

POST 2Original post

facelift and non-facelift I believe... Facelift below the 'hump', non above... I could be wrong though :dont know:

POST 3Original post

I have noticed this too. After a quick google image search I'd say it is not anything to do with facelift. Perhaps it is down to whether a midget is working on the Porsche factory line that day! I need to re-badge my rear, I will be going on the above-crease option.

POST 4Original post

From what I've gathered from other sites Alot of people change the badge and re-position hence why you may see it all over the shop for different years.

POST 5Original post

My 98 has the badge above the hump, I had to go out and look though TB

POST 6Original post

Maybe we should start a poll :?: My 2002 is below the hump...

POST 9Original post

I still cant work out what you guys are talking about?? - Will go look at the rear and find this "hump" everyone mentions... What Im I looking for? :?: - Must be the dodgy lunch I just had!

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, I can see from your photo that the badge is below the crease in the boot (engine cover).

POST 11Original post

Yes, I KNOW what a saddo I am...... It IS a facelift thing, but there are a couple of exceptions to the rule - C4Ss and 04- cars with aerokits. The possibilities for the Carrera badge are: C2 - up to 01 - Black - Upper C2 - 02 on - Black - Lower C2 w/aerokit - 04 on - Black - Upper C4 - up to 01 - Silver - Upper C4 - 02 on - Silver - Lower C4 w/aerokit - 04 on - Silver - Upper C4S - 02 on - Silver - Upper

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Top marks again Richard, that's awesome knowledge. What got me thinking was looking at Scott's HD1 (04 car with badge above the crease) versus my car (03 car below crease). I guess Scott's must have an aerokit, versus my Targa (that doesn't). Unless cabs all had the badge above the crease. It just seems a little odd as (IMO) I think the badge looks better below the crease, but then again, now that I own a narrow bodied 996, I also think they look better than the wide bodied (flabby!) 996. But I know for a fact that before I bought my Targa, I preferred the C4S (but it wouldn't fit in the garage). The probably makes no sense at all, but I guess I'm saying that you get familiar with the item and eventually it looks normal. Cheers.

POST 13Original post

Don't start a Kylie vs. J-Lo discussion, for goodness sake. The only subject which gets more opinions is the 993 vs. 996 debate!

POST 15Original post

I've an 04 C4S and the badge is on the lower section, under the engine cover. Mine's either an exception, a C4 in disguise or has had some rear end work?
