Obviously the 40AE came with glorious chrome wheels which were rather on the garish side compared to the GT silver on the rest of the car. My car at some point long ago had the wheels refurbed a fairly plain silver, but the paint is starting to bubble and they need doing again. What have been people's thoughts on colour for them? In a perfect world I'd like to split the difference and at least acknowledge the OE chrome-ness but not go all the way and make them stand out quite so much. Any thoughts or experience?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Current colour - would like to split the difference between this and the chrome OE...
How about Chrome Silver, available from the factory on the 991? BTW - do consider speaking to Chris @Exel Wheels
^ Nice!
I was going to say defo not to chrome, its not a yank tank. I think a chrome based silver is probably best.
Would you consider a two tone, diamond cut, wheel, e.g. silver or chrome on the rim and the spokes another colour? The 986 Boxster Anniversary/40 Jahre came with this design (on a narrower version of the same 5 spoke Carrera 'star' wheel as yours) and that car was painted in GT Silver also IIRC. Looks really classy to my eyes. Just my two penneth. Definitely avoid the chrome all over! PS. Lovely car the 996 40 Jahre ETA photo of 986 Anniversary with two tone Carrera wheels
