I was brousing the Cayman literature and noticed the weight for a base Cayman with Tiptronic is 132 lbs more than manual. The Cayman S with Tip is 88 lbs more than manual. Anyone have any ideas why the two Tiptronic transmissions differ by 44 lbs. Am I missing something here? Base Cayman w/manual 2886 lbs Base Cayman w/Tiptronic 2998 lbs difference 132 lbs Cayman S w/manual 2954 lbs Cayman S w/Tiptronic 3042 lbs difference 88 lbs

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Actually, the weight difference is related to the transmission that comes standard with each model. The Cayman comes standard with a five speed manual and the Cayman S comes standard with a six speed manual.
c rock, I guess that could explain it. So your saying that there is a 44 lb difference between a 5 speed and a 6 speed? Seems like a lot.
Yes, it's true that the 6 speed gearbox (gearbox, not car) is 44 lbs heavier than the 5 speed gearbox. It may seem a lot but they don't share the same manufacturer. The upcoming PDK gearbox will be 66 lbs heavier than the 6 speed gearbox and 110 lbs heavier than the 5 speed gearbox.

So, that explains it...thanks!
According to this link 7-Speed Dual-Clutch Transmission by Porsche and ZF Enters Volume Production , the weight of the PDK transmission is 120kg (264 lbs). Therefore: Tiptronic 286 lbs PDK 264 lbs 6-speed manual 198 lbs 5-speed manual 154 lbs
