Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Happens on every water cooled engine ever built whan there is a component failure, e.g. head gasket failure or engine block/water jacket crack. Do you have a problem? Ray :?:
oil water No don't have a problem Ray, trying to get as much information before i buy one, have been asking around different owners and it was mentioned trying to find which are one off's and design problems Steve
Main problems are RMS leaking, intermediate shaft failure and yes I have read about cracked water jackets on early engines. Try a google search on 996 engine problems as well as this web site and I'm sure you'll find more. Also aircon condensors and rads fail because they corode as debris gets trapped in the front of the car. Main delaer charges a lot for fixing this but actually you can do this yourself with Behr OEM kit at a fraction of the cost. Ray :thumb:
oil water Hi Ray Done as you sugested and googled the 996 problems, WOW it's like a war out there lots of heated debates on lots of issues enough to scare anybody away from porsche. (seems the japs were involved in the engine design) I get the impresion there is a minority with some serious issues. So far I get the impresion that the facelift car is better with a 3.6 rather than the 3.4 and if the car gets over 50,000 miles it probably wont have the engine exploding problem (imaginary or real) the tip box does not seem to have any real isues and tip owners probably give there cars an easier life. (AND DONT BUY ONE WITHOUT A GOOD WARENTY). Regards Steve
Hi Steve, good summary. To make you feel a little more comfortable I bought my 2004 C4S 20 months ago for £37.5k, just done 48k major service and had very little wrong since I've owned the car other than two new condensers, a new horn and a split rubber engine cooling hose. Even with the £800 service I've spent less than £1.5k and no I didn't get a pre-purchase check or warranty as the RMS and brakes had just been changed and the car looked and drove great. If you can do some of the maintennance work yourself it doesn't have to cost a fortune. Also the enthusiasts prefer manuals and I agree they're a more interesting drive. Just got back from a night out and drove the car 30 miles down the A1 - what a night out!!!!!!!!!! Good hunting for your car, now is the time to buy. Grab a bargain. Ray :thumb:
