I was just giving my 02 996 a pre track tech inspection and noticed that the heat shields between the coil packs and the muffler are completely corroded around the bolt that is supposed to secure the shield to the cam covers. It's the same on both sides. The shields look pretty thin and I am wondering if this is common and whether the replacement options are OEM only or perhaps something a little more durable in the aftermarket?

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Since there weren't any responses to the question I gather that corroded heat shields may not be that common. I called the dealer about replacements and it turns out that they only cost about 13 pounds each. So I'll pick some up on Saturday and fit them next week when I change out the plugs.
