Not sure if this is posting in the correct topic area, but here goes: My '06 Cayman S has begun dripping some oil from somewhere fairly centrally located under the engine. Not huge quantities, but a regular spot of an inch or two in diameter (not a puddle, but a wet spot) just forward of the rear wheel and slightly left of center (about where the left edge of the exhaust duo is). Car has just 7K miles, and has been pretty conservatively driven...no track, no auto-x, no abuse. I've owned 911's for nearly 30 years (please don't hate me for that!), and have instructed at PCA and BMW schools for 15 of those years, so I know how to drive these cars a bit. Anyway, I suppose that's not really relevant to an oil leak, but I didn't want anybody thinking I maybe lug it around at 1200 rpm all the time or something. So, the question is whether this might reflect a known issue or whether anyone else has experienced oil leaks. Anyone have perspective that might be useful for me to have before I take the car into the dealer? Thanks for any help! Jerry

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Jerry I've not heard of oil leaks as a common problem. To the contrary the CS engines have generally been extremely oil tight. Sounds like an appropriate opportunity to benefit from that new car warranty cost imbedded in your purchase price. BTW, many of us here moved from 911s of various vintages so no need for insecurity. You'll also find a good mix of long time Porschephiles and newbies.

jpcycler - There have been several reports of oil leaks - not a lot really, but we've seen a few valve cover leaks here and there. They get re-sealed easily under warranty. Had one myself - a leak in the driver's side cam tower cover discovered during the 20k-mile service. Left no oil on the floor - so it was found during the much-discussed "inspection" part of the service... anyway, it was fixed free same day as the service appointment. I doubt it's anything big - take it in they'll fix it. Before anyone raises the specter of the dreaded RMS problems of the 996/986 years, there have been no reports that I've heard of of RMS problems in the 997/987 cars. Let us know how it goes. brad
