I found this video very useful for those buying a used Porsche especially DIY kind of buyers: PS I posted it in the 911 section because it shows a 996 but I'm sure it's applicable to all.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

The credibility of the person doing the PPI is undermined by him saying "...as long as we don't have anything beyond range 2 (overrevs)...it's pretty safe to say that the engine is fine...if you get into range 3,4,5 or 6 that's a car you want to shy away from." There are only two rev ranges - 1 and 2 - in 996s. Rev ranges 1-6 were introduced with the 997.
