Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, I recently noticed that the little felt surrounds on the side of the wind deflector were coming unstuck, so I glued them back down (the bit where the roof connects with the deflector and pushes it shut when closing). After gluing them, I put a piece of tissue between the glass roof and the felt and closed the roof (to hold the felt in place and to prevent the glass sticking to the glue!). Whilst driving around, I noticed, for the first time ever, that the roof was......silent!!!!! Pure bliss, not a single crack or creak. Since opening and removing the tissue, the noise has returned, so I've definitely found the source of the noise!!! It's clear (upon further inspection) that the felt has been quite heavily rubbed and probably doesn't have as much padding as before, so I'm considering changing them both over (plus the one in the middle...which appears very difficult to get at). Has anyone done this before and if so, how did it go and where did you get the parts from please? Cheers, GD

POST 2Original post

Hi GD I have exactly the same problem, the creaks are really annoying. Are you talking about where the roof connects to the small "pads" on each end of the deflector? Did you get anywhere with it? OZE

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, I wish you hadn't brought this old thread back up!!! I clean and put silicon grease on it regularly, but I gave up trying to source the pads and just accepted the rattling. Over the last few days the rattling has started to annoy me again (mainly, because it was a nice weather a few days ago and I opened the roof up and realised how quiet it was)....and seeing this post again has made me realise that I need to spend this weekend fixing it!!! I personally think it would be possible to get some sticky felt pads from somewhere like B&Q and just cut them to the right size....and that's probably what I'm going to do, as it's annoying.

Hiya Sorry for the memories, but it's kind of hard to ignore those noises! Opening the roof just an inch or 2 makes the noise goes away so I reckon your diagnosis is right. Factory fit is a thin rubber insert without felt, I'll try a couple of things and let you know.
