Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I own a 2002 911 Carrera with 89,000 miles. The car runs well. My mechanic is suggesting I should have the crankcase vent valve removed and replaced. The cost would be $1600. Has anyone had any experience with this? Is it necessary?

POST 2Original post

If he is refering to the AOS & your car is smoking, you should do this. If he is indeed refering to the $25 vent valve located on top of the rear corner of the right head, you should have your mechanic removed & replaced!

Thank you prodriver. just went with the tune up, drive belt replacement, & brake fluid flush for now. Car had been pushing out a large plume of oil smoke immediately after starting. Has since stopped doing that with no other indications of something amiss. He explained to me that he thought that may be the problem. Just got it out of winter storage and will drive it a while to see if there are any other issues. Thank you again for the feedback. Thankfully I have been doing business with these folks for over thirty years
