Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Im looking for recommendations and experiences specific to fixing bore or cylinder scoring in the 996 m96. I live near BWI in MD and would like to stay somewhat local to that. Thanks.

POST 2Original post

I don't have a great recommendation for you. But I do have a 3.6L M96 that the cylinders are still good on. I'm in Maryland, you can PM if you decide you want a used block. The rod bearings were starting to go, but it still ran fine when I removed it from the car. We are close enough to each other that you could take a look at it and I'm willing to disassemble it for you to look inside.

Tag Motor Werks - [phone removed]. I wouldn't rebuild with factory bores. If you were going to keep it forever, rebuilds are like regular maintenance. Where/how you rebuild will determine when the next rebuild will be.
