Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Better handling through aero downforce? At what speed? I'm looking at a car but hate the aero kit. Thinking of keep my front bumper and standard rear spoiler and have them put it on my car as a trade in. All this if the engine rebuild checks out. However if the aero kit really added something to the handling of the car I would at least reconsider keeping it.

POST 2Original post

It ain't doing squat at the speeds you (or most, for that matter) are driving.

POST 3Original post

I think it does give me more confidence on the track in the turns when I increase the angle of the wing but I think it slows me down on the straight. I also think it looks great on a 996.

POST 4Original post

I'm not a fan of it's looks either. It's a sales option to generate more money for Porsche!

POST 5Original post

Significantly increases the value on BAT. On the track, ballpark you'll get an additional .1g at medium speed (60ish mph) and maybe up to .2g high speed (90+) in the corners. That's only if you are driving the car to the limits.

+996 looks great both MK1 and MK2 Nothing about the aerokit is permanent so if you're not a fan take it all off and sell it. Easy to go from aerokit to non aerokit. Not so much the other way (unless you're patient or can afford to buy it new).

POST 7Original post

Cause it looks sweet, and 911's made the spoiler cool. Its also great for bottoming out on driveways.

Wow that seems like a pretty big jump. So at say 60 it would increase grip from something like 1.0 to 1.10g and at 90 it could bump you up to 1.20g ?

Why not just keep your existing 996? I guess I don't understand why you would trade for another 996, and then swap parts between the new purchase and your existing car to make the new purchase look just like your existing car. What am I missing here?

Its not what you are missing, it is what I am missing. I miss the coupe over the cab. I'm pretty sure I miss the manual over the tiptronic. I also miss the sound of the 308 and so I'm looking at maybe a Mondial QV as the way to go...or even a Mondial 8 if the right car came along. As for why one 996 for another...I like the simplicity of the 996 vs the later cars...which means I would also consider going back to a 993 and even a 964 if the right car at the right price suddenly appeared. The earlier Mondials are not fast but they do sing nicely...and are probably even more DYI friendly than the 996.

POST 11Original post

I found that the adjustable wing (with the 8-degree shims) kept the car on the ground better at speeds above 130; in the neutral (no shim) configuration, the car got unpleasantly light over rises. The other 99.9% of the time, the aerokit stays busy by looking amazing.

That makes more sense. Now I know the rest of the story....

POST 13Original post

Make it look awesome. Like it's going 100 mph when it's stopped.
