Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

There is no oil leaking on the floor so i would never have spotted this but i popped my head under and this is what i found! Looks like the gearbox (tip) Any ideas what it is?? Car runs 110% spot on and no issues with the box. Looks like the oil has been there for some time.

POST 2Original post

1stly check that the oil filters are not leaking, which can happen

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

All that mess can be caused by something so small?

POST 4Original post

Are you sure it's actually oil? It looks very like Waxoyl (underbody protector) or similar to me in the second photo.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

What's Waxoyl? I have a note on the service saying was underside of front tub but i'm assuming that's the front of the car not the rear.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Lol the cheek. I would love it to be that simple but knowing my luck

POST 8Original post

I'm serious. I've had the whole engine & gearbox done on mine. It stops all the ali corroding and it does make a bit of a mess like in you pic.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I thought underside waxes dry off? This stuff is still moist.

POST 10Original post

Nope, they can stay looking wet for quite a while. Did you actually read any of the Google links? There are better products than Waxoyl (the one by Wurth is what's on mine), but they don't go dry in general. Obviously, eventually they wear away but if it's been done in the last few ,000 miles, I'd expect it to look like your pic.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Interesting that. I'm very greatfull for the info :thumb: The car was serviced in November 08 and it says wax the front tub on the notes so you could be right. It's only done 4k since the service also. Don't suppose you know what the front tub is do you? Should of stuck to Evos, know them inside out  I have one more pic loading up with a much better view. Give us a minute and it will be up

POST 13Original post

I expect they mean the floor of the boot at the front. It's got almost no protection as standard. I'm even more convinced by that second pic. It looks exactly like Dinitrol underbody wax protection (kind of like a permanantly oily gunk that sticks to everything). I wouldn't worry if you can't see drips, chances are good it's not the 'box or RMS. Aren't tips supposed to be immune to RMS failure anyway?

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was worried about knowledge on this forum but how wrong was i uh: I will get it checked to make sure but you are right. Also if oil is leaking out at the rate that those pictures show there would be a massive loss of oil in the engine and a good size portion on the floor which there is not. Yes the Tips are less likely to suffer from the RMS issues.

POST 15Original post

You could always ask the guys over on Renntech for a second opinion, although they may not be familiar with our peculiar mix of products to keep corrosion at bay http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php I'm sure Big Bob will be along in a while anyway...
