Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

1 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

About 6 months ago I moved from up in the mountains to a considerably more metropolitan area where I'm starting to find that my one ton diesel truck isn't the greatest fit. For example, I basically can't park it downtown, period. This has had me pursuing the listings for something a bit smaller and more sporty, which ultimately has lead me to finding an intriguing listing: A 2000 911 Carrera with 185k mi on it. Since I started chatting with the owner and the prospect of buying this car has become more of a reality, I've been diving headfirst into research on the car's reliability, trouble spots, etc. At 185k I have more than a little trepidation, however I put very little mileage on my vehicles, so if the car is sound, it could easily take me 5 years to reach 200k. In my experience a used vehicle's reliability depends much more on the previous owner's approach to maintenance than to mileage... so long story short this could be a diamond in the rough or it could be a money pit waiting to happen. Being conscientious of this fact, I'm trying to work out an offer (based on what I know). So my first question is what value would you assign to this car: 2000 Carrera, 6 Speed, 185k. Current owner bought the car at 130k. Clutch and IMS bearing done 4+ years ago by owner prior to the current owner (I do not know yet if this was a straight replacement or an upgrade/fix). Car comes from the south out of the salt belt. The car is now north, well into the salt belt, but has been garaged in winters. Car is black with GT2 wing and factory wheels. Interior is in good shape, 9/10. Exterior is in good shape, 9/10.
