Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I am looking for a weekend summer 911. I am sure of a few things. Want a Cabriolet. Want at least a Carerra S. Looking at the 75K range. Want low miles, under 20K. So found (2) interesting cars: 2012 Carerra S Cab, 15,000 miles 2009 Turbo Cab, 20,000 miles Same price, 78K. Opinions welcome. I have owned 2 older Carerra's years ago, in the 80's and 90s. I think I would be happy with either, but, would like opinions. I have a feeling 10 years from now the Turbo will hold value better. I plan to only put 2,000 miles/year, so it will always be a pretty low mileage car. Thanks.

Another car to consider would be the 997.2 GTS models that came out in MY2011. They had the wide body and the 408 hp motor. Also centerlocks, but for a low mile weekend car would not be too much of a hassle. One option to be aware of are the PCCB brakes- lighter weight, but very expensive if/ when the rotors need replacing. Not sure what they are selling for these days but worth looking into imo.

POST 3Original post

How are they optioned? How do they look? The turbo might cost more to keep running down the road. I would personally go with the newer/lower mileage car but I'm not you.

POST 4Original post

Definitely the 2012. Is it a 991 or late 997? 2012 was a split year. If a 991, the interior is vastly improved. You probably don't need the turbo and for 3 year newer car, its a no brainer for me.

POST 5Original post

Thanks for that. I actually saw this weekend a 2012 GTS that was very nice. But, sold quickly. Thanks for the suggestion, I think I would be happy with that option!

POST 6Original post

Everyone, thanks for the quick replies. The 2012 is very nicely optioned and has the lower miles. I am leaning toward that way. Don't need the turbo, I think the 2012 will have plenty of performance. How can I tell if its a 991 or 997? I am thinking 991, has PDK and Sport Exhaust System.

POST 7Original post

Any VIN numbers? The nice thing about the Turbos is that they come well equipped. Never a plastic interior. Never wondering whether more power would have been nicer. It is hard to estimate value loss for the Turbo since there is a gap to the 996 turbo, so you can't observe all years. A 2012 991S for 78000 will definitely drop more in the next 3 years, though. Late 997s are absurdly expensive (and they are mostly c4s models), except the GTS which is reasonably priced. That one is very hard to predict. I guess it depends on whether there are enough people to not want electric steering. But that sounds like a weak hold.

Here is a VIN: WP0CB2A93CS154310 I think its an early 991. Thanks for you reply.

POST 10Original post

The easiest way is the shifter. The 997 came with a 6 speed and the 991 has a 7 speed transmission. Obviously if you're going for a PDK, this doesn't help.

POST 11Original post

The 10th position in the vin is the model year code- "C" would be 2012. (My 2015 built in sept 14 is code "F") so yes it should be a 991. A couple of cues are- the interior- the 991 center console is higher and resembles the Panamera. Also the tail lights are more elongated and thinner/ sharper on the 991 than the 997.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
