Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

I currently own a 2006 cayman s and want to upgrade to a 2007-2009 911 turbo, but I am wondering if anyone has had any trouble with the twin turbochargers having issues handling the cold winters. I am a canadian and it gets pretty cold up here and while I am excited to possibly getting an awd car I have heard that turbo tend to break down more frequently. Is this true or just a myth? Additionally, is there a big difference between getting an 2007 or 2008 versus the slightly redesigned 2009+ ?

POST 2Original post

I have spoken to a few Porsche owners in AWD Carreras who drive them in the winter. They are well suited for winter (snow tires) but take a beating from the so called sanding off the roads. If AWD is important, keep your Cayman and buy a winter beater Subaru, or AWD SUV. As far as the reliability, they drive them all year round in Germany.

POST 3Original post

My local Porsche service "meister" in Germany says the 2007/2008 Turbos are "'bullet proof." There is a lot of info on other forums on the Turbos, but I've not seen anything to suggest a particular problem with them.

POST 4Original post

Yep, if kept relatively stock, they really are bullet proof.
