So this has been bugging me for a while now: I've always assumed the slots (cut outs, fins, whatever you want to call them) on the spoiler of the 911 were meant to let warm air out of the engine bay. I recently found out the fins are actually blocked off, the engine lid is solid underneath and they don't really serve the venting purpose I had always assumed they would. In the earlier cars (pre 996) and the original beetles, I'm assuming those were real slots and let warm air out for the air cooling process. So what purpose do the slots in the 911's spoiler serve? Are they still there just to keep the retro look? Should I have looked somewhere in the manual for this? There was nothing about this in this forum :helpme: :thanks:

Hmmm... the spoiler on my '07 911 Carrera has openings for the electric ventilation fan and for the duct that supplies fresh air to the air intake box. I assume that the fins/slots go all the way across the spoiler to provide space for additional openings and for symmetry. - Alan
