Hi, not the best photos I'm afraid but could anyone offer any thoughts on the potential source of this oil leak? It looks worse than it actually is in the photos. I've currently got the bumper and silencers off which improve access to the OSR. I can clean it off an run it up when it's partially back together but any heads up as to the cause would be most welcome.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi That looks like the Vario Cam solenoid. If you are not getting any codes and its working then I would leave it be and live with the leak. AFAIK it does not just bolt out, it's a cam cover off job to change. Im sure someone who knows more about it than me will be along to advise.... Berni
The actuator cover comes off easily enough. I would clean it all up and keep an eye on it. MC
:agree: An oil leak means there is a drip or two of oil .. i don't see any .. At work i would wash the whole area off .. brake cleaner or the like then drive and monitor it .. What you have is a long term build up of dirt and a smear of oil .. sweating as we call it .
:agree: too.
There's a one way valve from the crankcase to atmosphere above that area too. That could be a leak source that runs down and collects on the variocam solenoid.
If on the near side of the car. Is the AOS not directly above that? I need to do the belies on mine soon, but will time it when the gearbox is out.
It's actually left a bit of a stain on the garage floor but that may well be the accumulation. I'll clean it up and check it out some more as suggested. Thanks
Thanks, it does look like it's from higher up. I'll have another look!
