Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

can anyone identify or tell me what this part is behind the dash? i want to remove the very tail-end of it to fit a speaker, but im not sure what purpose it serves other than a plastic cover over some cables. Anyone had the dash off this and shed some light on it? I cant find anything online to identify it. If this can be trimmed then speakers with big-ass magnets can go in there. Cheers Paul

POST 2Original post

i've not removed a dash in a 996 in 14 or so years so i'm afraid i don't remember that particular plastic " pipe " I think it's just a cover for the main wiring loom .. the image which i assume is not your car has the heater assembly removed so it can't be part of that .. it's also in the wrong place to be a heater duct . If your going to start cutting it then the main loom is under it .. be careful .. you damage that loom and you are in trouble . Speaker must be pretty big to need to do this .. is the door not a better place perhaps ?

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you gentlemen. Surprisingly its bang in the way for speakers with a 75mm magnet, which is a pretty standard size. I assume you can't remove it without major work, so I'll look into a way to trim. Carefully...

The red part is where it fouls on large speaker magnets.

Sorry for the hassle fellas. Does anyone know if this can be removed after removing the instrument cluster, seeing as it is directly behind it. Cheers.
