Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi I have a modular exhaust to fit to my 996 turbo. I am weighing up the option of fitting it myself or paying someone to do it. What is an estimated cost for a Porsche specialist to do the job if all the parts of supplied? I am aware that the time could increase should the exhaust to turbo nuts be corroded but any advice or real world experience of this would be great. Thanks R

POST 2Original post

Pretty impossible to say as it depends on if the fixings come undone .. turbo nuts often rot badly and its a case of " burning " them off . If you want a guesstimate .. 2-5 hours labor imho .

POST 3Original post

Get yourself a good mechanic to fit it as said above bolts corrode really bad on 996 Turbos , also budget new gaskets ,possible oxy sensors and exhaust clamps.

POST 4Original post

Took me a couple of days messing about on the drive and cost me a new set of taps from Machine Mart. 4 of the turbo/exhaust studs needed drilling out and re-tapping. Also required new turbo heat shields as they'd pretty much disintegrated. You will need new gaskets for turbo/cat joints. It's a faff.

If your near Dove House Motors, give Tony in Service a call. They recently did this on my friends turbo
