Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, Just wondering is it common that there is a lot of road noise from these cars, say 70 - 90 mph, drone sort of noise. My tyres are fairly worn down now and Im replacing them next week. Is it the tyres ? are they noisey cars ? Anyone know ? by the way car only has 17,000 miles on it. Seems to be really loud, I was just wondering if it was something worse ie. bairing or diff etc. Thanks in advance.

POST 3Original post

Id start with the tyres first. When mine reached their min I noticed increse noise in mine. How low are they? How loud - enough to affect speech volume with the windows close? Is it just road noise you are referring to or some other unusual noises (click/taps/scrapping ect)

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, thanks for the replies. No, not so loud as it affects talking with windows up, just drone in the background, if you have music on loudish you cant hear it. No clicking or knocking or anything like that, just a loud hummmmmm

POST 5Original post

Get the tyres changed, what are your thoughts for replacements? Tyre pressures affect road noise too, with the heat of this last week and a little spirited driving you'll have increased pressures.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Same again i suppose....Bridgestone Potenzas ?

Whats the best that you recommend ?

POST 8Original post

Michelin Pilot Sport 2's work very well & were one of the OEM fitments on the 996.

POST 9Original post

yes mine has an overall high level of general noise on the motorway, I can tell because the stereo was crackling in the rear speaker.. I thought the cone had gone. When I got home I tried it in the garage.. yes the rear crackles at almost unlistenably loud volumes I would like to put a db meter in it as its loud.. mainly tyres though, continentals
