Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I want to transfer my p plate to a car I don't have yet and sell the car it is on I do have another vehicle to hop it to for a while What is the smoothest most economical way to do this?

POST 2Original post

Put the plate on retention, costs £105 instead of £80 to transfer it over from car to car. If you put it on your 'spare' then you'll have to pay another £80 when you have a car to put it on......plus you may get insurance admin fees tfor chaning over the insurance details. I have got my retention certificate from the Aston through the post today. Takes about 3-4 weeks for the DVLA to do it. If you go ontheir website it has al lthe forms and tells you exactly what you need to do.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Scott Is there another fee to move from the retention to the new car?

POST 4Original post

No - you've paid for that with the 105 GBP. But if you keep it on retention for more than 12 months, you have to pay the DVLA 25 GBP (every year) for some unknown reason :wack:

POST 5Original post

i agree put it on retention unless it is going to be a while for your next car

POST 6Original post

I think the £25 per year year was great but if you look today it is a rip-off, the retention fees are a joke. £105 for one year, £130 for two & £155 for three!!! The thing that miffs me is you can pay obscene amounts for a reg but you never actually own it you merely hire it off DVLA allowing then to charge what ever they like and even confiscate if they so desire! I feel now, unless you have a plate that is worth a lot or means a lot it may just put quite a few off having a PP. These B11*** and Irish plate cheapies are just not worth it, the fees cost more than the plate.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It's my first p plate it has never been something that's interested me in the past but my came with and the plate is model related. I think makes the car. Hopefully it won't be too long before I transfer to my replacement car and it will work just as well there. Thanks for your info guys!
