Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi All I need to remove the trim piece that covers the rear pillar. The seatbelt passes through this, so it seems the easiest option to remove it would necessitate undoing bolt 9 from the diagram which secures the seatbelt. Before I do so, does anyone know what settings it needs to be torqued up to, when I put it back together? & is it safe to assume that the nut (7 in the pic) is captive & won't fall to be lost behind? I've tried the workshop manuals, & searching here & other forums, but not found anything :? thanks in advance

No.7 is a spacer and it wont go anywhere .. you just pull it out of the carpet . Torque setting .. FT young man .. if you really want i'll dig through many manuals and try and find it for you .. but it's just done up tight to be honest . EDIT 37 ft/lb is listed for a 997 ... seems a little low to me so im still with FT !!

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

thanks Ian, being a safety item, I thought I'd err on the side of caution & gauge the forums wisdom. However if "FT" is what Indie's would usually do for these, then that's good enough for me. cheers S.

POST 4Original post

The 996 Bentley manual says 50Nm. Does that count as FT? Just about.

thanks screwy, much appreciated.

Good luck! I struggled to get a spanner on the rear bolt of my 997 seat belt, let alone a torque wrench!
