So looking at this photo begs a question. Is the exhaust just a tip added onto a single outlet? This doesn't make me worried as the exhaust sounds amazing (this is the car I saw at the Dealership in Colorado)! I echo the reports of everyone else that has seen this car in person. I have a 98 Carrera 2S, which I've always thought was the best looking Porsche of modern day era, but the Cayman is a whole new game. I revved up the motor and it's sounds louder to me than my C2S w/the motor sound package! The interior headliner which many have had comments about is completely fine....and actually quite nice I thought. Yes this is true of the Boxster as well, it is just the tip that is dual outlet, it all comes from the same muffler.
Yes and easily removed/replaced.
Oh my, that is a surprise to me. I had no idea that is was not dual outlets. Anyone know how the tips are attached tothe muffler? Russ
I don't think so. Look at page 30 of the Cayman S brochure and you can see that each side of the engine has its own exhaust pipe and muffler which then come together at the tailpipe.

What about the giant Tequipment chrome exhaust tip option? Is that actually a one exhaust outlet or two?
The tips look pretty easy to remove and polish, single clamp. I want mine chrome and shinny. I don't care if I have to clean them everytime I drive it!
I belive the "dual tip" 997S is the same arrangement, a single pipe with twin tips.
DaveC, Yes it is the same arrangement as on the 987S

something wrong with those pix...
K, It is perfectly clear to me! Dot dot dashdot dash, I think it is an SOS. Can you tell I am bored? Waiting for my dealer to return my call! /fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/confused_smile.gif Russ
Russ it looks like a race between you and I in who will see the Cayman live last./fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/cry_smile.gif
SF, I am kind of use to getting things last living here, but this time it is different, I CARE! Tell me if you know or anyone who has seen one in person, is the housing around the exhaust chrome or painted silver like the spoilers? The tips and the surround look chrome to me! Sorry for the lousy pic/fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/sad_smile.gifit was on the cover of November EVO magazine.
The trim surround is painted silver, the same as the 987s The std exhaust trim is stainless steel, the chrome version is just that, the same trim but chromium plated The Tequipment version is twin round pipes (90mm diam i think) All my pics above taken at the UK Caymand launch, the 987 pics from the dealers pre-owned stock
Thanks Percy, I will get to see one today for the first time in person. I think the housing and the tips both would look great chromed. Russ
I don't think so. The Porsche configurator shows the chrome pipes as being round just like the ones in the Tequipment brochure. The more I see the stock unit in person the more I think it needs to be chromed.
After seeing the stock stainless one in person here is my .02....... The brushed stainless finish kinda matches the cars character. If you go with a bright chrome version it might start to look out of place with the stock painted silver surround. If you also havethe surround piece chromedit most likely wouldlook better, but I don't know how hard that would be. The first thing I will do is take off the stock stainless version and polish it till it shines brightly.......but doesn't quite lose that slight brushed stainless look that I find attractive on the car.......then I mightstartlooking into a high temp clear coat to keep it that way and make it easy to clean.......
Atlas, Yes I will take mine off and see what kind of shine I can get out of the stock tailpipes, and go from there. Russ
