I would like to ask a small favour of you kind, altruistic 996 owners. My dilemma is as follows. As I am a 'glass is half full' kind of guy I'm thankful for the fact that my humble abode comes with a garage, but both the driveway (which runs alongside the house) and the garage itself are fairly narrow. Length is not a problem (as far is the garage is concerned anyway ) I currently own a BMW 130i which I can only just get in to the garage with the mirrors extended. According to BMW it is 1934mm wide, including mirrors. I have searched for 996 dimensions and I cannot seem to find any which include the mirrors. Consequently I would be extremely grateful if owners of the following vehicles could pop outside with a tape measure and obtain the width of their cars, including mirrors: 996 Carrera 2/4 996 Carrera S 996 Turbo 996 GT3 (bit out of range financially but what the hell) Finally, do the mirrors actually fold in, and how much difference will this make to the overall width? Apologies if this has been asked before, I would be obliged if you would post a link to the relevant thread(s) if this is the case. Thanks in anticipation...

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

You can't have searched very hard! A quick search on google gave me this ... :thumb:
MkI Carrera = 1770mm* MkII Carrera = 1780mm* Turbo = 1840mm* *Not sure if it's including wing mirrors.
Sounds like it should be fine. Surprisingly newer family cars are wider than the 911.......my Mk5 Golf was a tightersqueeze in the garage than my 996!
That's exactly right. My wifes Mk5 Golf is wider than my 997 C2S.
I was even looking at a Volvo C30 (for the daily driver) and that was simply too wide to go in the garage! 911's even in fat guise (the 997 TT fits fine too) are actually still quite narrow.
Thanks for the replies folks, I'm surprised just how slender modern 911s are. I thought that my 130i was pretty narrow. The Focus ST I had before that was a bloater by comparison, it wouldn't get through the garage doors. Do 996 mirrors fold in manually?
just a thought......the doors need quite a bit of room to open so you can get out. :dont know: TB
Mirrors fold in manually. If you need to fold them in you may have to stay in the garage untill your next journey. You can get a framless garage door fitted. Watch the pies and you can get out but it's a bit of an art.

Haworries when getting mine 6 weeks back. Thankfully i have a double shed but with 2 doors. The porkie fits in no probs but being a pie man I can only get out thanks to the fact i have a double. Would I have gone on a slimfats otherwise :?: My prokies Fat Ass looks good
My garage is tight and I can get out so a lesser man will too  Just put some carpet on the wall so you don't ding the doors :thumb:
Drop the windows to get out of the car, then close them on the key fob. Only need to open the doors a few inches then.
Hello again folks, thanks for the further replies. Getting out of the car once ensconced in the garage shouldn't be a problem, it's more a case of squeezing down my long drive between the house and fence, with associated down pipes on the side of the house etc. Once in the garage I should be alright, being a relatively atheletic fellow! Actually the garage itself is reasonably wide once inside. Useful tip about opening the window - a benefit of frameless doors. Of more importance is how it seems likely that I might be able to fit a turbo in there. This, combined with some temptingly low prices, means that this might be the way forward... Onwards and upwards!
