Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello, http://www.portiacraft.com/cardetail.asp?make=00_Porsche_996&id=1159 I am looking to buy a 996. I would like to spend less than 20k and buy from a specialist. I am happy for a C2, C4, Cab, manual or tiptronic. Piece of mind is more important to me, so the right car is important. This car has little in the way of extra's ie not traction control, standard wheels. Any comments on price and dealer would be greatly appreciated. Charlie

POST 2Original post

Looks clean to me judging from the photos. As it's a year 2000 model, traction control is standard on this model (you can't switch it off). You may want to get a pre-purchase inspection done before you buy - look up Peter Morgan on this forum. ~ Maxie

POST 3Original post

Theyre not the standard wheels are they? Look like Boxster wheels to me

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you for the comments. The car was registered in Oct 99. The dealer said it is a 2000 model car. However, it does not have traction control. The wheels are 17inch. Are these standard? Thanks Charlie

POST 5Original post

Word of caution: I would do a seach on this forum and pistonheads.com with regard that dealer and see what others have to say

POST 6Original post

Who told you it doesn't have traction control....the dealer? The wheels are standard 17". ~ Maxie

POST 7Original post

I looked at 2 993's there many years ago.. Be aware of the dealership. Welcome to 911uk by the way - :bye:

POST 8Original post

Traction control was not standard on a Carrera 2 of that age. Unless you are driving like a loony on public roads you will absolutely not need it and I'm sure most people that track their cars will turn it off.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My understanding is that the top button (TP) on the right of the air con switches the traction control on and off. It had a blank there. When I questioned this i was told that it had no traction control. Thanks Charlie

POST 10Original post

Just reading Adrian Streather's 996 The Essential Companion , p294, it states the TC system was an option on all 996s upto MY 1999. Though it doesn't state it became standard for MY2000, my guess is that it does, hence my earlier referral to TC which can't be switched off because there is no button on the dash to do so. Interestingly, TC switches off after 62mph has been exceeded. ~ Maxie

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Apologies for silly questions, I am new to this. Are we saying that it has traction control that can not be switched off? What is the TP (TC?) button that I have seen on other cars. It is the top of the three to the right of the aircon? Thanks for your help, Charlie

POST 12Original post

You can have my 99 c4 cab for 19k much better spec, lower miles and probably far better condition!!!

POST 13Original post

For the addition of standard PSM on this model, I'd go for this. ~ Maxie

POST 14Original post

Portiacraft have an 'iffy rep'. :?: Before I bought my car i looked at one there, description was a bit mis-leading and car was so so.

POST 15Original post

MY2000 runs from Aug 1999 to July 2000. The car appears to have the "Millenium" steering wheel fitted to only MY2000 cars. The crest is black and silver, rather than red/black/gold Don't personally like London cars (which I think many PortiaCraft cars are)
