Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

had the priviledge of ferrying a LHD 996TT from one side of Aberdeen to the other, obviously because it wasn't mine and I was doing it as a favour for the owner's father I didn't get to boot it up or see how it handled etc,but it felt so much more modern/user friendly than my 993,that it had me thinking that perhaps it would be a better option than my 993,especially as it was a Tip and with the amount of driving I do in my line of work(54+k p/a in a Merc E-class auto),perhaps better suited to me nowadays I know the 997 TT tip is faster in the benchmark dashes than the manual, but whats the differences between the 996 TT manual and tip?,as i think I would prefer to go down the Tip route

POST 2Original post

They are the Porsche bargain (for now). With some low/lowish mileage cars at around 30k

POST 3Original post

Itches need to be scratched  ! Regards Big Bob :bye:

POST 4Original post

Rodders, the only 996 for a 993 boy is a GT3 (MK1) - :hand:

POST 5Original post

I know where you coming from, the 993 doesn't come close to the 996 :coat: Personally I hated the 996 turbo tip and much prefered the manual. If the car is for fun then get the manual but if the majority of your driving is around town, I would opt for the tip. Would seem 996 turbo's are a bargain right now

POST 6Original post

Loved my 993 but I had to scratch that itch around Christmas, the Tip TT hit the spot. Beats a trip to the clinic

POST 7Original post

Got bitten myself by driving one. Still hurts like hell. Bob has a valid point. Currently, wife blocks purchase. :frustrated:

POST 8Original post

Adeymars, I had the same reaction from "she who must be obeyed" ie :thewife: . But in the end she relented and allowed me to buy the 997 GT3   uh: , So there is always a chance, you will just have to be extra good in every other way possible, and play the long game with :thewife: :worship: . Best Regards Big Bob :bye:

POST 9Original post

993 Don't sell the 993 for a 996 Turbo I have both but the 996 tts nae a real Porsche The 996 Turbo S is seriously quick , comfortable but lacks the rawness of the 993 4S . Great car don't get me wrong but give me my 9934S anyday I am even thinking that I should have put my money into a 993 Turbo - better investment too. And us Aberdonians should never forget that !!! Thats my opinion anyway

POST 10Original post

996 not a real Porsche? Astonished at your statement I respect your opinion but would gladly debate the issue and come to a fair conclusion that you are wrong!

POST 11Original post

996 It was a tongue in cheek remark to a fellow Aberdonian !! Its the grey skies and lack of sun that clouds our sense of judgement But having said that I would have my 9934S any day over the 996 Turbo S The 993 is such a great car - personality, noise, rough ride ...... A sports car The Turbo - well , great car but lacks something . Not sure what but it lacks the feeling that its from the same car maker And that is all totally subjective which is why the next person drives an Aston, or a Merc or a Ferrari or a Lambo ....... A whole different debate

POST 12Original post

I too would have to protest at the assertion that the 996 is not a real Porsche :wack: Big Bob :bye:

POST 14Original post

Having owned both a 993 and 996 don't think it's fair to compare the 2 cars. The 996 is by far the better car but people have this romantic notion that the 993 is the ultimate Porsche driving experience .... and I bet the guy trundling down the road in his MG Midget says the same opcorn:

POST 15Original post

Yer proper car my Spitfire was sadly part of a coke can or perhaps a 993 now Abs Pas stiff chassis proper seats smooth ride mind blowing acceleration and 175mph who wants all those mod cons in a car these days!
