I have a 2003 996 Turbo with the EVOMS performance installation. The car now has just over 17,000 miles and is in mint condition, never been raced. My Porsche service adviser tells me that I need not worry about an IMS bearing failure. He says the failure rarely if ever occurs on the turbo engine. I don't have any bearing noise now. I'd like to avoid a precautionary replacement. Are there any thoughts on this? Thanks. komac

Sure, as the 996 Turbo cars carry the Mezger design engine, which is completely different than the M96/97 used in the regular cars and shares very few parts with them, there is nothing to be worried about.
Many thanks for the replies!! That takes a load of concern off my mind. komac
I'd find a new service advisor if he told you the failure was less likely. As you have been told it is impossible.

Worst part about this is that most service writers start off as shop techs; so if he does not know that the 996 Turbo cars have an entirely different engine, I'd start looking for a competent dealership....................
