[sarcasm] Podie predicts that the car that wins will have a greater number of cup-holders and storage cubby-holes than the other. [/sarcasm] Cool... might watch it if there's nothing else on.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Lets just hope it's Tiff in one, Vicky in the other
Normal 911 will get mullered by the SL55. Turbo will eat the SL55 up. IMHO Rich
No this is the 5th gear lot, ie the old Top Gear team so it should be a good review. Its the to$$ers on Driven who do tosh like the plate of jelly over the cobbles crap
Apparently it is a comparison of the best GT car... On that basis SL55,something like 2 tonnes & 475bhp,point it and aim for a continent.I fear our beloved porker may be a not so close second on this basis.
Not so clubsport! The porker should win because it has more luggage space for your continental GT blast. I kid you not! DAZ Video timer now set. EDITED TO SAY THE PORSCHE HAS ACCOMODATION FOR TWO CUPS WHERE AS THE MERCEDES ONLY HAS ACCOMMODATION FOR ONE - QED >> Edited by dazren on Monday 9th December 16:59
I hope they compare like for like: SL55 AMG - £89k 996 Turbo - £88k 996 C2 £57k - C4 £60k (in basic form) You just know they won't compare it with the Turbo
Much as i hate to say it, i think there is something missing here. I read somewhere recently that in a standing start, straight line run an SL55 (auto) pipped a 996 Turbo (manual) all the way to the redline in top. Okay, straight line, but even so....
In light of that last statement does anyone have or know anyone who has an SL55 that would like to take part in some unscientific research. DAZ
Struggling to see how that could be the case! SL55 AMG 1955kg, 470bhp, 4.7 secs, –, 202mph, 240 bhp/ton 996 Turbo 1540kg, 420bhp, 4.1 secs, 10.0 secs, 189mph, 272 bhp/ton It don't stack up!
I think Fifth Gear are doing that tonight aren't they? Irrespective of the straight line results i'm sure the better (rear engined) car will win. www.VerySideways.com
Despite its weight the Sl55 didn't do too badly on Top Gear's track test - only a couple of secs slower than the "record holding" Zonda.
Take a look at Quarter Mile Times - need to go to Google.co.uk and type "quarter mile rivals" and click on cached link! : >> Edited by mark 964rsr on Monday 9th December 18:04 >> Edited by mark 964rsr on Monday 9th December 18:06
Fantastic result
Yes an excellent result. I can calm down now. DAZ PS - they didn't mention the 100% drinks storage advantage the 996tt has.

Can someone tell me what happened, as I don't get 5th Gear. Thanks!
I loved Tiffany Dell's quote along the lines of "Top Gear is a bit long, Fifth Gear is much more interesting".
that was a great retort from Tiff...i think the whole test was a dig at Clarkson & Top Gear....in the first of this series of Top gear,JC said something like " you can keep your 5th gear because now it's time to change up to Top gear"...tiff's retort was spot on & they let the 996 TT win over the SL55 which happens to be Clarksons replacement for his 355. p.s. I thought VBH was looking particularly delice in the bike test..
To paraphrase, SL55 too heavy and too much computer assistance with driving, but if you live in St Tropez the roof comes off , 911 Turbo as good as it gets. I think that covers it.
Yes DAZ, you can put the stress busting pills away now! Classic presentation by Tuff Noodles - he's the best car presenter/tester on the planet and had honed his technique over the years. The original Top Gear 'Supercars' video from the mid-90s has him and Clarkson doing various contemporary exotica and Tuff's presentation of the then new Porsche Turbo was utterly delightful; as was his drive in the XJ220 and NSX. Not only can the man drive on a different level but he enthuses and informs in perfect synch. A masterful performance in both respects last night too and frankly, showing TG the way home, despite the improvements in that show. DAZ - WHAT a car! I mean, fair game to the Merc - I think the comparison dubious, frankly but hail to the 911; looks awesome in silver and the stance from the front with those gaping scoops - it just says, "move over - I'm comin' through!" One of the best car reviews I've seen for years. Utterly top in the banana stakes, as it were.
According to the Sun, 5th Gear are pitting the 911 against the SL55 tonight.
