Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Is there any noise from the motor itself?
Demort will hopefully be along soon - he undertook (through his day job) a complete overhaul of a friends 996 Targa roof about 2 yrs ago.
Ive covered most things here .. http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=116450 You need to remove the rear panel under the rear glass hatch , you need to look at the small slot in the motors then press the open switch .. you should see a slight movement of the motor internally .. If both do this then the roof has jammed cables . You also have the emergency tools , instructions will be in your manual to move the roof by hand . If a single motor fails then the roof will not work .. ive never seen it in many rebuilds but its possible hence the above check . Off hand i would lean towards your into a roof rebuild im afraid .. Cost wise its between £2400 and £4500 depending on whats found when removed and stripped .. the first price is for cables alone which can sometimes be the only fault .
996 roof thanks Dermot ...wii try this..cheers
