I was meaning to ask this a while back. After I removed the 4wd set up from my car I noticed a whine from what I assume is my gearbox, noise disappears when I push down on clutch. This whine definitely wasn't there prior to removing the 4wd set up, any obvious reasons as to why this could be.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Clutch release bearing sticking?
When the clutch is depressed, the main shaft will stop spinning so it sounds like its something to do with that. Can you get it to whine any other time - like coating in any gear with your fut on the clutch (so the gearbox internals are moving)?
Both usual issues mentioned above, its the release bearing or input shaft noise.
If I'm driving along at 60 the noise is quite prominent and when I press down on clutch the noise disappears. As I say, this noise wasn't there until I pulled the prop shaft etc out.
Maybe having the front shaft connected masked the noise somewhat?
I did wonder that myself. If that's the case I'll have to live with the noise
.....until you need a new clutch.
Why that ? I notice my car before I bought it had a 2 clutches in quick succession
Live with the noise until you have chance to remove the gearbox and investigate is what I meant.
