Picked my car up yesterday after a full service, clutch and some other jobs. Whilst we were in there, noticed the IMS cover plate was weeping, so whilst that was sorted, the IMS bearing was given a good going over. It's the original dual row bearing and at my last clutch change 42k miles / 4.5 years ago we removed the outer dust seal off the bearing to allow engine oil to lubricate it. It was in mint condition with no play in it then and I can now confirm at just short of 145k miles it is still in mint condition with no play in it. Happy Days! Also sent oil off to Miller for analysis so will report back when I hear from them.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

You resisted the urge to swap a perfectly good bearing for a questionable aftermarket one then. MC

My Indy inspected mine last year at >170k. No seal present and no play. Left well alone. 'Upgraded IMS' seems the most important thing to the Yanks. Never understood it on early cars.
...it's not the bearing you need worry about at 100k plus mileage it's your thread bare crankshaft bearings :hand:
I know. Thats why I sent my oil off for analysis.
